Whether you have already written your will or are thinking about writing one in the near future, we ask that you consider leaving a legacy to Listening Books. Whatever the amount, your gift could make a vital difference to the lives of our members for years to come.
For many of our older members with physical or visual impairments, such as arthritis or glaucoma, our service not only provides a link to the wonderful world of books but is often a relief from pain, boredom and loneliness.
“I have found your service absolutely splendid; it has played an important part in my intellectual and psychological wellbeing. This has substantially enriched my life over the last four years. At the age of 84 and with severe mobility problems over the recent years, your audiobooks have enabled me to satisfy a lifelong passion for reading with a degree of comfort and ease.” Listening Books Member
Through our Sound Learning programme for young members in education, our catalogue also supports the National Curriculum. Our audiobooks allow our young members with disabilities such as dyslexia – who number in the thousands – to access literature appropriate to their age rather than their reading age, helping them to decode the text. Our service helps students with print impairments to realise their full potential and avoid the negative spiral of underachievement, exclusion, anti-social behaviour and unemployment.
“I signed up my son for membership a couple of months ago as he was diagnosed with dyslexia last year. He is thoroughly enjoying membership. It has meant he can access books that he wouldn’t attempt to read. Listening to audiobooks has enabled him to extend his vocabulary and knowledge and has increased his interest in books.” Mother of a young Listening Books member
We are continuously striving to bring the best possible service to our members and are proud of the work we have done in recent years to achieve this. However, there is still a lot more that we would like to achieve in order to reach the many people out there who would benefit from the life-enhancing effects our audiobooks can bring. It is also essential that we maintain an excellent standard of service for existing members. Leaving a gift to Listening Books in your will could make an incredible difference in breaking down the barriers to the written word for people with print impairments.
