Who Can Join?

Listening Books provides a postal and internet based audiobook library service to anyone who has an illness or disability which makes it impossible or difficult to hold a book, turn its pages, or read in the usual way. Our service is available to individuals as well as organisations such as Hospitals, Residential and Nursing Homes and Schools.

What Do You Get If You Become A Listening Books Member?

You can borrow as many titles as you can listen to during a year on MP3 CD and internet streaming depending on the membership option you have chosen (see below). For the over 25s we also have a back catalogue of cassette tapes. You will have access to an extensive range of titles, both fiction & non-fiction, abridged and unabridged, as well as a large selection of audiobooks that support the National Curriculum. You will also receive a regular member’s newsletter and updates on new titles.

How Does The Service Work (MP3 CDs & Cassette Tapes)?

Once you become a member we will send you our catalogue on CD ROM and a request list for you to fill in and return (please contact the library if you do not have a computer). As soon as these audiobook choices are received, our Library Team will send you your audiobooks (MP3 CD or cassette tape). Then as soon as you have finished listening to one of them pop it in to your nearest post box. When we receive this audiobook back we will send you another one from your request list of titles.

How Does The Service Work (Internet Streaming)?

If you choose a membership option which includes internet streaming you are sent a welcome letter with a unique username and password to access over 300 audiobooks from www.soundlearning.org.uk.  Audio samples can be listened to from this site. There is no restriction on the number of titles you can listen to or the number of times you choose to listen to a particular title.
