The Listening Books Mini Library

Lindsey Lodge Hospice and their mini libraryA mini library is a collection of 200 audiobooks on MP3 CD, specifically selected to span a vast range of genres such as biographies, classics, crime and historical novels.  Bestselling authors such as Marian Keyes and Dan Brown and old favourites like Agatha Christie and Charles Dickens could all be included for your patients or residents to enjoy. The audiobooks are housed in an attractive bookcase, making storing and accessing the titles very easy for both you and your residents.

For £600* for the first year of membership, your organisation can have its very own mini library of 200 fantastic audiobooks to lend out to patients or residents or to play in communal activity areas as you see fit. Commercial audiobooks can be very expensive so this is a great, affordable way of catering for your patients or residents who would struggle to read a book.  Delivery of your mini library is included in the cost and any broken or lost audiobooks will be replaced free of charge for as long as you are a member.

Mini library side viewHow will a mini library benefit my residents?

There are many ways that the mini library can be utilised.  Book groups are an excellent way to interact and encourage discussion between residents, but equally an audiobook is a wonderful activity for individuals, particularly if they were avid readers before entering care. To an extent, we can also tailor the audiobook library to your needs.  For example, if you have residents or patients with dementia, we can include shorter stories in your mini library, or titles for children.  These in particular are excellent when used as a reminiscence activity.

The mini library is not just a brilliant activity for the visually impaired, but can provide an excellent outlet for all residents with a physical or mental difficulty that prevents them from reading or holding a book.  Thought of in this way, the mini library is an excellent investment when thinking of activity provision.

Member listening to an audiobook As Candy Welch, Librarian at St Helena Hospice says:

“Talking books are a great resource for patients who have problems with sight or perhaps are just feeling too weak to read for themselves.  It is also an enjoyable experience to have a story read to you no matter what your age.  This collection helps us to ensure that patients’ days here are made as fulfilling as possible.  It is another way of offering comfort and relaxation to patients and ensures that staff and carers feel they are doing that little bit extra for the people they care for.”

Our MP3 CDs will play on the majority of modern CD and DVD players. However if you do not have these available we can source these for you at cost price, meaning that when your mini library arrives, you are ready to listen!
