The vast majority of our members do not qualify for the Articles for the Blind free postage scheme. Our postage and courier bill is therefore up to £85,000 per year, which is an extraordinary burden for a small charity.

We are also committed to the provision of commercial audiobooks as a matter of policy. This means sourcing titles from commercial audiobook publishers and additionally recording our own educational titles in house where they do not exist commercially.

This commitment to providing an excellent quality audiobook service for print impaired people who do not qualify for free postage means that the charity has huge financial burdens. Accordingly, the charity has a fundraising requirement of several hundred thousand pounds per year, for example, our expenditure for the financial year 2006-7 was approximately £730,000.

We have the loyal support of a large number of Charitable Trusts, but nevertheless we have an ongoing need to identify new sources of income.
