Our Plays

Audio producer editing

Since 2010 we have been recording plays in our on-site studios. Just like our other educational audiobooks, these plays are vital for those studying at school and have previously been unavailable in an audio format. Now members are able to enjoy these classic and modern drama pieces performed by a full cast. Featuring many popular actors whose voices will be well known to members of Listening Books, we are very proud of these works and hope our members will enjoy them.

Works produced so far include:

Mrs Warren's Profession by George Shaw - You can listen to a sample here
DNA by Dennis Kelly - You can listen to a sample here
A View From the Bridge by Arthur Miller
An Inspector Calls by J B Priestley
Kindertransport by Diane Samuels - You can listen to a sample here
Journey's End by R. C. Sherriff
The Memory of Water by Shelagh Stephenson
Be My Baby by Amanda Whittington - You can listen to a sample here
The Cagebirds by David Campton
Blood Brothers by Willy Russell - You can view an extract from the production here

If you are a member and would like to request one of these titles, please contact the library on 0207 234 0522 or email library@listening-books.org.uk

If you are not already a member of Listening Books, you can join here.

'I have recorded 9 plays now and I’m really proud of what we've achieved. I’m always amazed at the amount of talented people that come in for auditions and the recording days are brilliant; having a full cast in our studios, the place is full of energy and wonderful chaos!' Will, Audio Engineer

Hearing a play performed by a group of actors can help with understanding the text, particularly if the language is unfamiliar, such as with a Shakespeare play.

Pauls Vates recording

One of most regular volunteers, Paul Vates, had this to say:

'I have been in two plays, they’re incredibly enjoyable to record, because you’re bouncing off other actors, and I think that enjoyment and spark comes through in the final recording. As an actor you are part of the play’s ongoing history, and with that comes a responsibility to bring alive the words and characters for Listening Books’ members.

Are you an actor?

We are always searching for new voice talent, so if you are an actor and would be interested in donating your time to Listening Books to record a play, or another of our educational audiobooks, please email your audio showreel to studio@listening-books.org.uk

Our audio producer will then get back in touch.
