0 CommentsHaving someone read to you is great. It's part of what makes audiobooks so magical. A voice can really add to the story and sometimes it's as though the reader is there in the room with you. What if a few of those voices were famous actors?

0 CommentsWhen it comes to choosing audiobooks, you can't go wrong with one narrated by multiple narrators! Especially when a book is written from more than one perspective, having multiple narrators helps with immersing yourself in the characters heads. This works particularly well for crime novels, for short stories, and for adapting books that rely on illustrations. But, everything from two character voices to a full cast can help to enhance the story!

0 CommentsThere are many reasons why some people think audiobooks might not be for them. I know, because I used to be one of those people. I thought my tiny attention span wouldn't be able to tolerate listening to the same person read for ten hours. Or I thought that it might not feel like I'd really 'read' a book. I now hang my head in shame and admit how wrong I was. All I needed was a great first audiobook.

0 CommentsDespite the growing technological panic at the cusp of the twenty-first century, my parents only owned one CD player. It was too big to move from the sitting room, so the audiobook was bought for me as six cassette tapes to listen to in my bedroom. At nine years old, I had already amassed an impressive collection of audiobooks on cassette - I've always struggled to fall asleep and need to be tricked into unconsciousness by distraction from overthinking and worrying. I had Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox and The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me memorised, and had been forced to give up my Thomas the Tank Engine cassette to my sister, who was, in fairness, deserving; she's younger than me and suffers from the same problem sleeping.

0 CommentsRoald Dahl Day is celebrated every year on his birthday, 13th September, and events go on throughout the month. However, this year is a very special one - Dahl's 100th birthday! Dahl penned 39 books and many have become firm favourites around the world. His books have also been adapted into much-loved films, such as The Witches and Matilda. The most recent release - the BFG - reminds us that Dahl's influence and magic is ever-present! His style and imagination capture the hearts of many, the Listening Books team included.
