World Sight Day 2016

World Sight Day 2016

October 12, 2016 0 Comments
World Sight Day draws attention to our vision and our eyes. These are far too often neglected, whether that be through lack of available care or lack of knowledge about the importance of looking after our vision. The problem is understandably worse in developing countries, where resources are limited. But it's vital, too, that those of us who, for example, stare at screens on a daily basis are looking after our eyes as well.

The main focus of World Sight Day is to raise awareness and focus attention on blindness and vision impairment. And the main call to action this year is 'Stronger Together'.

optometrist World Sight DayAccording to The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), 4 out of 5 blind people in the world are needlessly so. The more people who are aware of this problem, the more that can be done to change it.

But World Sight Day is also about recognising that those with living with blindness or visual impairments can still live a full life. Eye health isn't just about avoidable blindness. Guide Dogs for example can be a huge help to anyone living with blindness, and it's important that everyone should get the help they need, whatever that may be.

Here at Listening Books, we provide a library of audiobooks for anyone with a print impairment, and this includes those with blindness and visual impairments. Our audiobooks can be borrowed on MP3 CD, via stream and download, and we have a varied catalogue to suit all ages and interests.

If you think you, or anyone you know, might benefit from Listening Books’ audiobook library service, you can find out more on our website, or call our library team on 0207 407 9417.

World Sight Day takes place on October 13th 2016. You can find out more about it here.
