Wilde's `trivial comedy for serious people' makes fun of the English upper classes with light-hearted satire and humour. The plot centres on the lives of Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff who have both taken to bending the truth in order to add a dash of excitement to their lives. It all seems harmless enough but their deception is eventually discovered and threatens to put an end to their romantic pursuits of Gwendolin Fairfax and Cecily Cardew.
