How you can access our audiobooks

We want to make it as easy as possible to access our service, so we offer two formats for borrowing our audiobooks

1. Online - streaming and downloading

Members can borrow titles to either download to a portable device via the Libby app, or stream via the internet straight from this website. The audiobook app is an excellent option if you want to listen while out and about.  There are thousands of titles to choose from, and you can borrow two books at a time for a duration of between 7 and 21 days. Audiobooks are automatically returned at the end of the lending period and members can even return titles early, allowing you to borrow up to ten audiobooks each week. If you are listening indoors, simply pressing play from this website will stream your books, with no need for an app.

We also offer a selection of Read-a-long titles for younger members, suitable for ages 5-6 year olds. These are picture based e-books that appear with the audio narration, so younger members can follow the text as the story is read. Please note, these titles require an internet connection, so can’t be downloaded.  You can view these Read-a-Long titles here.

Our friendly support team are also on hand should you require any assistance, so if you want audiobooks on your iPad, Android Phone, PC computer or another device, they'll be able to help you get started.

2. Postal MP3 CD

If you don’t have a device for using our online service, or just prefer using a CD player, we also offer a postal CD service. For this option, members choose a selection of books on CD, and we send them direct to your home via Royal Mail, up to four books at a time. When you are finished listening, put the discs back in the envelope the book arrived in and put back in the postbox. When the books arrive back at our office, we’ll post some more from your list.

All postage and packaging is free and there are no due dates or late fees to worry about.

How do I request books if I can't do so online?

If you can't request books online, you can request a printed list of each category. Alternatively, you can ask our membership team to choose titles on your behalf.

What is different about an MP3 CD?

MP3 CDs are similar to standard CDs, but what sets them apart is that they can hold a lot more information. For example, an audiobook that may be ten standard CDs long can fit onto one MP3 CD. This is an advantage for our members as they no longer have to worry about searching through numerous discs. MP3 CDs can be played on CD players, DVD machines and computers.  If you are unsure if your CD player will play MP3 CDs, you can request a sample disc by emailing support@listening-books.org.uk.

The MP3 CDs will play continually but are also split up into three minute sections so our members can stop listening at any time and find their place easily again.

If you would like more information about our services, or are unsure which option is right for you, get in touch on 020 7407 9417 or at support@listening-books.org.uk
