Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker-his classmate and crush-who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice explains that there are thirteen reasons she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why. Audio quality issues
The Performance: Joel Johnstone gives a powerful and sensitive performance. He captures the emotional intensity of Jay Asher’s story perfectly, maintaining a pace that keeps the listener engaged with the difficult subject matter.
Technical Quality Warning: While the narration is excellent, there is a significant technical issue with this specific file on the Listening Books platform. There is a persistent crackling noise in the background throughout the recording.
I compared this to the commercial preview on Audible, which is crystal clear. This suggests the file at Listening Books may have been compressed too much or has become corrupted. For members with auditory processing sensitivities or those using high-quality headphones, the crackling is very distracting and makes it hard to focus on the story.
Final Verdict: A great book and a great narrator, but the audio fidelity needs to be investigated and updated to match the commercial standard.
