Volunteering for a Cause: Bringing Audiobooks to Those Who Need Them

Volunteering for a Cause: Bringing Audiobooks to Those Who Need Them

December 7, 2025 0 Comments

There are so many reasons why people choose to volunteer - whether it’s making new friends and finding a community, doing something that helps others, or simply enjoying an activity that gets you out of the house. For me, volunteering offers all three, including the time I spend volunteering with Listening Books by doing outreach in my hometown.

I was first drawn to Listening Books because of their incredible selection of audiobooks. When I discovered that it’s a charity helping people with an illness, mental health condition, physical or learning disability access books - and listen without worrying about credits - I knew I wanted to help spread the word about the remarkable work they do.

So, when the chance to volunteer came up, I applied - and I’m so glad I did! I now get to share the fantastic work Listening Books does to break down barriers to reading and bring amazing stories to more people through the joy of audiobooks.

Since joining Listening Books, I’ve not only discovered more about the charity, but also about my local community and the best places to share updates. I’ve had the opportunity to talk about an important service that enables people to enjoy audiobooks, and I’ve met some fantastic people who are just as passionate about spreading the word in the process.

One of the great things about Listening Books is that there’s something for everyone in their collection of over 10,000 audiobooks. With titles ranging from popular bestsellers and fantasy to cosy crime, autobiographies, self-help, classics, and even educational books.

Volunteering with Listening Books is easy, especially if you’re already active in your community. Whether it’s popping into your local library, pinning a poster on a noticeboard, or sharing a link online - there are so many simple ways to help people discover this valuable service.

I really recommend volunteering with Listening Books. Now more than ever, people need access to things they enjoy. No one should feel cut off from the hobbies they love during difficult times, so please sign up if you can! Your support helps more people continue their joy of reading.

Ready to make a difference? Join us as a Community Volunteer and help break down barriers to reading. Every action counts - whether it’s sharing leaflets, spreading the word online, or connecting with your local community. Find out more about this opportunity here and how it helps bring the joy of audiobooks to those who need them most.
